On 7 and 8 May 2024, the TRUE project had the pleasure of hosting Betsy Popken - Executive Director of the Human Rights Center at the University of California, Berkeley, and Director of the Center's Climate Justice Program - and Alexa Koenig - Co-Faculty Director of the Human Rights Center, Research Professor at UC Berkeley School of Law, and Director of the Human Rights Center's Investigations Program. TRUE project members presented their research plans and initial findings, and discussed their future research plans with Betsy and Alexa.
In the evening, a panel discussion was held on the book Graphic: Trauma and Meaning in Our Online Lives, co-authored by Alexa and Andrea Lampros. TRUE researcher Dr Gabriela Jiga-Boy and Swansea University Professor Ann John contributed with insights from their research in psychology, public health, child and adolescent mental health, and polarization online. TRUE Principal Investigator Professor Yvonne McDermott Rees chaired the discussion.
On the following day, Yvonne took Alexa and Betsy to the Gower peninsula, concluding their visit with a trip to Rhossili Bay, recently voted one of the UK's most beautiful beaches.
