On the 6th and 7th March 2025, the TRUE project team welcomed researchers in the field of digital misinformation from institutions across the UK and Europe for an interdisciplinary workshop titled ‘Researching Digital Misinformation’. Hosted on Swansea University’s Singleton Campus, the two-day event featured a speaker-and-respondent format, allowing for lively discussions following each set of presentations.
Our full workshop programme can be viewed here . Sessions across the two days covered a range of topics related to digital misinformation, including:
Deepfake Dilemmas: Ethical and practical challenges in researching AI-generated media.
Building Trust in Digital Media: How user-generated content and AI-generated images shape public trust.
Interventions Against Digital Misinformation: Evaluating strategies to combat misinformation.
Misinformation in the Courtroom: The impact of misinformation on legal proceedings and decision-making.

On the Thursday evening, workshop participants had the opportunity to continue their discussions in a more informal setting at a workshop dinner at Gigi Gao's Authentic Chinese Restaurant, overlooking Swansea Marina. The dinner provided a fantastic opportunity for attendees to network, exchange ideas, and reflect on the day’s discussions.
A massive thank you to all speakers, respondents, and attendees for their contributions. We hope this workshop marks the beginning of many future connections and collaborations!
