We were delighted to recently welcome two new excellent colleagues to the TRUE project team!

Nick Waters joined the team in September 2025 as an Impact Fellow, supported by the Research Wales Innovation Fund Impact Fellowship Scheme. Nick was previously the head of Justice and Accountability at Bellingcat, working closely with GLAN (the Global Legal Action Network) to demonstrate the viability of open source information for accountability purposes. As part of this role, he acted as expert witness for the TRUE project mock trial. He holds an MA in Conflict, Security and Development from KCL and served in the British Army as an infantry officer.

Kaja Kowalczewska joined the team on 1 October 2025 as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow and Principal Investigator of the DIGDEM project. She also leads the From Voices To Verdicts project at the Digital Justice Center (University of Wrocław). Her research centres on the interrelation of technology and emotions, and how these shape the commission of and accountability for atrocity crimes. In addition, Kaja coordinates the KOOS Coalition, a network of Polish CSOs advocating for a victim-centred approach and the activation of universal jurisdiction. She earned her PhD at the Jagiellonian University in 2018 with a dissertation on the legality of autonomous weapons systems.
Welcome, both!
